INTRODUCTION
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by
William Shakespeare at the very beginning of his career, the young lovers of
two mutually hostile relatives, the death they finally re meramahkan their
families. The drama was among Shakespeare's most popular works during his
lifetime, and also the most frequently staged alongside Hamlet. Now, the
character of Romeo and Juliet title characters are regarded as archetypal young
lovers.
Romeo and Juliet belongs to a tradition
of tragic love which is rooted in antiquity. The plot is based on an Italian
tale, translated in the form of poetry, namely The Tragical History of Romeus
and Juliet by Arthur Brooke in 1562 and retold in prose in Palace of Pleasure
by William Painter in 1567. Shakespeare borrowed heavily from both which, but
for the sake of expanding the plot, the characters he created his assistants,
particularly Mercutio and Paris. Drama believed to be composed between 1591 to
1595 were first published in a quarto version in 1597. This text is poor
quality, then dibetulkannya by later editions to make it more in line with
Shakespeare's original work.
The use of dramatic structure by Shakespeare, especially because-because like back and forth between comedy and tragedy to raise tensions, as well as the use of subplots to lard his story has been praised as an early sign of his skill as a dramatist. This drama provides a variety of poetic forms to different characters, even once in a while deforming along with the characters. For example, Romeo, more and more familiar with the narration throughout the story.
Romeo and Juliet has been adapted numerous times for stage, film, musical or opera. In the English Restoration, the drama is revived and reviewed comprehensively by William Davenant. Version 18th century David Garrick also have to modify some of the scenes, drop the materials considered to be inappropriate at the time, while the opera adaptation of Georg Benda also drop a lot of action and exaggerate a happy ending. In the century-19th century, among other offerings Charlotte Cushman restore the original work and stressed again realism. Version 1935 John Gielgud very faithful to Shakespeare, even using an Elizabethan costumes and staging to refine drama. In the 20th century, this drama has been adapted in various versions, such as the issue in 1936 by George Cukor relatively faithful version 1968 by Franco Zeffirelli, Romeo + Juliet (1996) by Baz Luhrmann was inspired by MTV, and the 2013 version by Carlo Carlei.
ANALYSIS
The preferred part in novel Romeo and Juliet is a last part, Act 5. Act 5 be the most interesting act compare to other act in novel Romeo and Juliet. The reason Act 5 being the most interested part because Act 5 showing the power of love between Romeo and Juliet. It is a best storyline compare to other act. Example we can see is how Romeo drink poison that cause Romeo death because of Juliet. After that, Juliet also want drink poison that would cause Juliet death. It can be seen in the novel and movie Romeo and Juliet.
FRIAR LAURENCE :
“Hold,
then; go home, be merry, give consent To marry Paris: Wednesday is to-morrow:
To-morrow night look that thou lie alone; Let not thy nurse lie with thee in
thy chamber: Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor
drink thou off; When presently through all thy veins shall run A cold and
drowsy humour, for no pulse Shall keep his native progress, but surcease: No
warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest; The roses in thy lips and cheeks
shall fade To paly ashes, thy eyes' windows fall, Like death, when he shuts up
the day of life; Each part, deprived of supple government, Shall, stiff and
stark and cold, appear like death: And in this borrow'd likeness of shrunk
death Thou shalt continue two and forty hours, And then awake as from a
pleasant sleep. Now, when the bridegroom in the morning comes To rouse thee
from thy bed, there art thou dead:”
JULIET
“Give me, give me! O, tell not me of fear!”
It shows Juliet love Romeo very much so willing to drink the poison which can carry the risk of death. This Act 5 also member of teaching moral value that loyalty to one's vital is very important to maintain a relationship.
Juliet visits Friar Laurence for help, the monk offered him a drug that will make him fall in a coma as if dead for "forty-two hours." Friar Laurence promised to send a messenger to inform Romeo would design it so that he can unite back with Juliet when she wakes up. On the night before the wedding, she takes the drug. When approached as if inanimate, she was staying in the family tomb.
Unfortunately, the message did not get to see Romeo. On the other hand, Romeo sounded newspapers "death" Juliet of her maid, Balthasar. With a broken heart melted, Romeo buys poison from an apothecary and goes to the Capulet tomb. He met with Paris, who arrived to mourn Juliet alone. Paris thought that Romeo was vandals then fought him; eventually Romeo kills Paris. Still believes that Juliet is dead, Romeo drinks poison. Juliet then wake up, realize the death of Romeo and stabbed herself with Romeo's dagger.
CONCLUSION
Romeo and Juliet is a truly love story between one man, Romeo and one girl, Juliet. It is the best story by William Shakespeare. Act 5 is the ending of the story both family decide to end the frued between them and it is the sadness part.
The whole house of Capulet and Montague and the Putera Verona met at lunch to find the bodies of the two bars. Friar Laurence tells the story of a pair of "star-cross'd lovers" (lover's fate was not condoned). So both families befriend in grieving the loss of their children, and they agreed to end the dispute. The drama ended with a speech by the Prince of Verona elegy for the lovers: "For never was a story of more woe / Than this of Juliet and her Romeo." (Because there is no more poignant story / story of Juliet and her Romeo).
